What is Loro Blonyo?
A statue representation of the Javanese mythical couple of rice goddess Dewi Sri and her husband Raden Sadono, the ‘Loro Blonyo’ is a mainstay in many homes in Central Java, Indonesia.
The literal translation of this ‘Loro Blonyo’ is ‘two together’ usually occupying a place of prominence in the entry room of many homes, it is believed to be symbol of various virtues and blessings. For a married couple,it promises marriage bliss and procreative fertility and in any case it symbolizes healthy longevity for the home’s occupants.Over generations though, the ‘Loro Blonyos’ symbolism of love, harmony, spiritual balance and prosperity have lost none of its salience.
The colonial ages of imperialism, the ‘Loro Blonyos’ has undergone refinement and distinction in its craftsmanship across various societies in the region so much so that no two pieces of the finished article of different origins are identical. Each village of subculture in the Java region produces different and unique craftwork.
A recognized symbol of status, the ‘Loro Blonyo’ is more often found in the residences of the well-to-do and the quality and attention to detail paid to specially commissioned and bespoke pieces is manifest. In fact, some of the most vaunted versions of the statues can be found in the palaces of the region today.

About Us
Our story & journey
Pondok Loro Blonyo Arts and Living was established in 2002
What began as a hobby in 2002 blossomed into a purposeful business. Our skilled artisans specialise in crafting handmade Loro Blonyo sculptures from both wood and clay. Each piece is a testament to our history, dedication, tradition and artistry.
How Loro Blonyo is made:
Loro Blonyo is handcrafted from natural materials such as clay and wood, Clay is classified into three categories- earthenware, stoneware and porcelain depending on the fired density. All clay needs to be exposed to heat to become ceramic, usually fired to at least 1,290°F (700°C).
The wood used in our handcrafted Loro Blonyos mainly comes from kayu sengon (Albania wood) or kayu jati (teak wood).
All Loro Blonyo products are designed and individually handcrafted by talented artisans in our own factory - thus there can be slight variations in glaze, size, texture and weight.

Our Mission
The Soul Of Unique Objects
Here at Loro Blonyo, our mission, values and goals are:
To recognise all traditional skilled artisans in Indonesia as genius creators, not just mere craftsmen. We have to make them proud of their talent.
We were afraid the tradition may fade in the face of modernity, so we strive to preserve the art of Loro Blonyo by empowering future generations with this knowledge, and educating young people in the necessary skills to continue this traditional craft.
We continue to employ older skilled artisans, regardless of gender and age, hence providing them with a secure income in their later years.
Each purchase of a Loro Blonyo means that many skilled artisans today can continue working to produce them, and to teach younger artisans who will carry these skills into the future.
Loro Blonyo aims to give back to society by operating an honest business that prioritises people’s livelihoods and needs.
For us, it’s not just a business but people first.
Javanese Philosophy
“Urip iku urup” is a Javanese proverb meaning “life is light.” Life should bring benefit and goodness to others—the more good one does, the more valuable one’s life becomes.
